Terms of Service for Expense Counter

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Expense Counter mobile application ("the app"), published by Tushar ("we", "us"). You must review and accept these Terms before creating an account or sending messages. If the Terms are updated, you may need to accept the current version before using chat again.

1. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old and able to form a binding contract to use the app. Do not use the app if you are barred from doing so under applicable law.

2. Your account

• You are responsible for the accuracy of your registration details.
• You are responsible for keeping your password and device secure.
• You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account.
• We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.

3. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• Send spam, scams, phishing, hate speech, harassment, or unlawful content.
• Impersonate any person or misrepresent your affiliation.
• Attempt to access another user's data, probe or breach our systems.
• Upload content you do not have the right to share.
• Use the app to break any applicable law.

4. Chat, reports and blocking

• The app provides 1:1 chat between users.
• If you do not share a group with someone, your first message is sent as a request. The recipient can accept or decline it. Only one message can be sent while a request is pending.
• You may report any message or user. Reports are confidential and reviewed by us. Repeated abuse may result in account removal.
• You may block any user. When either party has blocked the other, messages in both directions are hidden and new messages cannot be sent between you.
• Blocking someone who sent you a pending request declines that request.
• You are solely responsible for the messages you send.

5. Expenses and no financial advice

The app is a personal record-keeping tool. It does not provide financial, tax, accounting, or investment advice. You are responsible for the accuracy of the data you enter.

Shared group balances and settle-up suggestions are calculations based on member entries. They are not payment instructions or guarantees. The app does not move money; a settlement entry records a payment that members say they made outside the app. Share group invite codes only with people you want to join, since group members can view the group's shared expenses, splits, settlements, display names and optional UPI IDs.

6. Your content

You retain ownership of the content you create (expenses, notes, receipt photos, messages and shared group entries). You grant us a limited licence to store, transmit and display that content solely to operate the app for you and the group members you choose to share it with.

7. Our content

The app's name, logo, design and source are owned by the developer and are protected by applicable law. You may not copy, redistribute or resell them without permission.

8. Privacy

Our handling of your data is described in the Privacy Policy, which forms part of these Terms: /privacy-policy

9. Availability

The app is provided "as is" and "as available". We aim for high availability but do not guarantee that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that data will never be lost. Keep your own backups of critical information.

10. Disclaimer and limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the app is provided without warranties of any kind, and we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, revenue or profits arising from your use of the app.

11. Termination

You may stop using the app and delete your account at any time from Settings → Delete account. We may suspend or terminate access for violations of these Terms.

12. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be surfaced in the app. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
